Have any old, unopened, factory-sealed NES games floating around in storage somewhere? Probably not. But if you do, they could be worth some serious money now.
Admit it…we all wish we would’ve held onto and taken better care of the gaming consoles we had as kids. Imagine having a working NES with tons of games still in mint condition? How much do you think they’d be worth nowadays?
I checked into some recent eBay transactions, and I found dozens and dozens of games that sold for over $2,000 each. Some sold for over $5,000. I’ve ranked ten of the highest sales I could find in order of selling price.
10. Blazing Star (NEO GEO) – SOLD FOR $3,350
Releasing in 1998 for the Neo Geo, Blazing Star is a side-scrolling shooter classic. The game follows cyborgs who have revolted against the artificial intelligence that once created them and their armies. You can actually play this game on your iPhone or Android.
9. Red Sea Crossing (Atari 2600) – SOLD FOR $3,500
This game is actually a really huge deal. Rumor has it that there only a handful of copies of this game still in existence today, one of which sold for $10,000 in 2012. Independent programmer Steve Schustack created Red Sea Crossing , and this copy recently traded hands back on Jan. 30th, 2019 for $3,500.
8. Super Mario World (SNES) – SOLD FOR $3,599
Ahh Super Mario World, the game we all know and love. In fact, there were more than 20 million copies of this game sold, making it the best selling SNES game of all time. This near mint, unopened copy of the game sold for a buck shy of $3600.
7. The Last Blade 2 (NEO GEO) – SOLD FOR $4,299.99
Our second SNK game of the list, The Last Blade 2, is a fighting game originally released in 1998 as a cabinet arcade game. The game has been ported to the Neo Geo in 1999, and then for the Dreamcast in 2001.
6. Resident Evil (PS1) – SOLD FOR $4,500
You know this game. The one that started it all. Play as Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine as you fight for your lives inside a zombie ridden mansion. This factory sealed, near-mint condition copy of this best seller recently went for $4,500 on eBay.
5. Quiz Chibi Maruko Chan JPN (NEO GEO) – SOLD FOR $4,999
Released in 1996, Chibi Maruko-chan Deluxe Quiz is a trivia game based on the Japanese Television show and Manga of the same name.
4. Baseball (NES) – SOLD FOR $4,999.99
I love the old video games with titles that just describe what the game is about. Such as the classic, Baseball, released in 1983 for the NES. This factory sealed copy, Nintendo sticker and all, was recently sold for 5 grand.
3. Ultima Escape From Mt. Drash (Commodore VIC-20) – SOLD FOR $5,500
This game has an interesting story, much like that of the Atari 2600 failed game E.T. – The Extra-Terrestrial. Story has it that Sierra Venture dumped all of the unsold copies of Escape from Mt. Drash off a cliff in Vancouver. Meaning that there’s a good chance that any surviving copy has come directly from the bottom of said cliff. This one sure looks like it’s been buried for a bit.
2. Uncharted 2 Among Thieves Fortune Hunter Collectors Edition (PS3) – SOLD FOR $9,100
There’s a big reason this game sold for so much…winning a contest was the only way to get your hands on a copy. The special edition release came with the game (duh), a Phurba Dagger replica, a strategy guide, an art book, the official soundtrack, and an autographed collector’s case.
1. Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Fortune Collector’s Edition (PS4) – SOLD FOR $9,999.99
I honestly have no idea why this copy of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Fortune sold for $10,000. Probably because of all the cartoon boobies.
